Eight Right Way
Eight Right Way and Study Personal Practice Achievement
- Right Think - Achievement
- Right Knowledge - Study
- Right Intelligence - Personal
- Right Speech - Practice
- Right Action - Practice
- Right Feedback - Practice
- Right Agility - Practice
- Right Strength - Practice
In the past, Right Knowledge was considered the starting point.
Nowadays, Right Think is seen as the beginning, leading one toward Right Knowledge.
The Genuine Dharma Gate of Think Buddha
By virtuous causes and conditions, when one hears, sees, and recites a single phrase — “Namo Amitābha Buddha” — one attains a provisional realization of Right Mindfulness.
When even a spark of Right Mindfulness arises, one will encounter Right View.
When there is seeing and hearing, one attains Right Knowledge of the body through reflection.
With a little Right Knowledge, one cultivates Right Speech, Right Action, Right Livelihood, Right Effort, and Right Concentration, thereby strengthening the power of mindfulness.
When mindfulness power becomes strong, one attains the true realization of Right Mindfulness.
Indeed, even by reciting the Buddha’s name alone, one can progress from provisional realization to true realization of Right Mindfulness. In truth, the stages of Hearing, Reflection, and Practice have already been cultivated over many past lives, so in this life they may not be strictly necessary. Yet because of ignorance, who can truly know? Therefore, it is beneficial to supplement with Hearing, Reflection, and Practice in this life whenever possible.
One must go to the temple, bow to the Buddha, and repent.
To bow to the Buddha is to bow to one’s own mind, which contains both the True Buddha Mind and the True Demon Mind.
Learn from the Patriarchs.
Learn through the Sutras.
Learn even through works like Journey to the West or The Tale of Kiều — for these too are Dharma texts. (In my case, I watched the Journey to the West films rather than reading the novel.)
Within the Eightfold Path there is also the notion of Power. Suppose we set a convention from 0 to 100 as full attainment: one does not need to reach 100 in one Path before moving to another. Each Path should at least be above zero — for example, one must have some seeing and hearing before progressing to deeper knowledge. At times one cultivates View and Hearing, at other times Action and Discipline, at other times Recitation, Repentance, Effort, Concentration, or Imagining the Power of Mindfulness. Together they form a circle: when the wheel of the Noble Eightfold Path begins to turn, there is no longer any Path that must come first

On Meditation
I do not know meditation myself, but I have heard a few things about it that you should know. Meditation requires a master, because it is complex and not simple. It is easy to go astray; sometimes one must first awaken before entering meditation.
On Thought and Mindfulness
Mindfulness is essentially thought. When mindfulness power reaches 100, that is the full accomplishment of thought.
